DIY Team Building Kit for a strengths-focused culture

The real reason workplace cultures don't change after teams do an assessment together

When you roll out CliftonStrengths to your team, you have grand visions of a strengths-based culture.

  • Collaboration is going to be seamless and easy.
  • You'll understand every colleague's motivators.
  • You'll assign work efficiently.
  • It will feel amazing!

All of that is possible.

Yet, often, team culture doesn't change because people stop focusing on it the day after the initial conversation.

The truth is, most go back to work with great intentions, yet you let it fade. You quickly head back into a life of back-to-back calls and 200+ emails per day.

The good news?

You *can* harness all of that energy for your strengths-based culture before it falls off of your priority list! And you can do it internally, even if you don't have a professional trainer or certified strengths coach on your team.

I remember being in your shoes

The manager on a budget: I remember having a $2,000 annual team building budget. That's not enough to bring in an external trainer. And I didn't want to take them bowling for our offsite meetings - I wanted meaning. That's why I created this DIY Team Building Kit. It's for you to be able to continue the momentum from the CliftonStrengths kickoff. You can do it with support...and without spending 10k at a time.

The trainer with no time for design: I remember being the delivery arm for thousands of employees. I didn't have time to add instructional design to the mix. All I wanted was a starting place. Then I could add my own customization to have panache and company-specific examples. I remember senior leaders asking me to create content for an all-hands summit, and I wished for a design shortcut so that I had more time to rehearse and focus on delivery.

The strengths coach in a creative lull: I remember living in hotel rooms, going from event to event. I wanted to add other activities to my repertoire without having to take time off to design. It would have been great to have a resource like this to add to my options.

Voxer coaching

You can get different levels of 1x1 coaching with me in order to prepare you for your event(s). This helps you convert from the person who attended a strengths kickoff with Lisa...into the strengths champion who is facilitating rich, ongoing conversations and activities with your team.

I want to show you what is possible as you roll out
a strengths-based culture in your workplace

Say goodbye to...

  • Showing up as the frazzled, under-prepared facilitator who stayed up late trying to pull off a decent event
  • Dozens of hours tweaking slide designs
  • Finishing your workshop design one night before you deliver it
  • Running to the printer with a rush-job because the handouts are not ready
  • Wishing "they" would do something so that you don't have to manage all of this

So that you can...

  • Show up at your workshop, feeling refreshed and inspiring for your audience
  • Focus your time on proactive, culture-building ideas
  • Integrate strengths in company-specific ways
  • Guide ongoing strengths-focused conversations with ease and grace
  • Lead the change you want to see in your company

Frequently Asked Questions about the DIY Team Building Kit

No. It's totally fresh content so that you have a "next steps" option that doesn't require you to pay us every time.
It works great for either. It's angled a little more for in-tact teams than a random mashup of people, yet you could easily adapt it for an "open session" style. There's also a hefty dose of self-discovery. Much of the work is done through activities with partners, yet it works regardless of their relationship to each other. There is one section called "Lean on Me" where you would want a slight adaptation for non-in-tact groups.

Either one. We designed it so that it could be your first time or your 5th time delving into a strengths workshop.

It's definitely appropriate as the kickoff event (although there's not a bunch of "why strengths" preamble). It's different from the one we deliver to clients because we wanted people to have an answer to "what's next" without having to pay us every time. It's also a set of activities that a team could do on their 4th go-round.

The core design is for *in-person* events. If you're well-versed in virtual, you can make adaptations. The virtual adaptations are not built into the program at this time.
No. In fact, we break it down into 4 chunks that are 1 hour. So if you want to do one event per month over four months, you'll have lots of content to do shorter workshops that you turn into lunch-and-learns or something more bite-sized.
